Blue printing revolutionised the history of textiles in Europe in the 17th century, leading to the establishment of thousands of manufacturing companies. The wooden models used for printing were decorated with fine brass pins, stripes and drawn profiles, sometimes thousands of them for a single model.Using a special technique, whereby the wires were drawn through so-called drawing dies, the round brass wires were transformed into a wide variety of shapes, such as leaves, drops and stars. The motif of petali rosé dates back to the 1920s.This print motif is immortalised using the lost wax casting process.
The glass plate made from recycled transparent and coloured glass abstractly reflects the petals of the blue print pattern. After the broken glass was discarded in its first life due to defects, it was melted down. The character of each glass plate lives on, bringing a unique blend of colours and textures.
